Would-Be Woman Driver

Have you seen this story? They say "If at first you don't succeed", but one South Korean lady is taking this to extremes in her efforts to get a driving license. She has failed 771 times. Actually, that was yesterday, so it's probably 772 now, since she takes the test almost every working day.

To be fair, she hasn't actually got to the practical part of the test, because she keeps failing the theory. You'd have thought that by now she'd had all of the possible questions many times. And learned all of the signs.

She's spent $3000 so far on test fees, which is a real bargain, because if she had passed first time, she'd have shelled out far more buying, maintaining, insuring, taxing and fuelling a car over the last four years. In fact the government should be subsiding her, because by failing she's also helping the environment.

If she does ever pass the written exam, I pity the examiner who has to take her out on the road. Of course, she might well be an excellent driver, but I suspect the examiner will be checking his or her life insurance. And taking along spare underwear. Just in case.

I wonder what she'd be doing with her time if she wasn't sitting all these tests - taking flying lessons?

Wow. It gives up women a bad name but I am an awesome driver. Better than Andy even since I don't back into large objects.

I think failing 771 times puts her in a special Mr Magoo category of crapness at driving. I've got to admire her persistence, though ...

Jean Knee:

Posting when people are sleeping - that's a diry rotten trick!

Bee:

Since you drive the large object in question, it would certainly be difficult for you to back into it.

Chris:

Her capacity for endurance and perseverence is impressive.

I thought Andy hit your car for some reason...

You mean you haven't passed your house driving test yet?

Jean Knee said...

If you had a motor home you could drive yer house only I don't think you have one or else there wouldn't be a basement.

please help me, I don't want to clean

Brian o vretanos said...

Most houses here don't have basements. Or wheels. I don't understand why American ones do, because flooding and sump-pump problems seem to be common problems leftpondianwise...

we don't have basements in Texas but lotsa houses have wheels

You just know that the day she passes that test and then gets her license (because for real, just let the lady take the driving part already!), she's going to get in an accident the very first day she's on the road by herself.

Also, I now don't feel so bad about having to take the driving portion of the test four times when I was 16.

You'd have thought they'd let her have a go at the practical bit, but that's beaurocracy for you ;-)

There was no written test in my day, but it took me two attempts at the practical test to get my license.

Maybe she's one of those professional students.

Maybe the guy at the DMV keeps failing her because he wants her to come back every day.

I wonder how she gets there...

Anndi:

She'd probably be completely lost if she did pass, and had to break her daily routine. I hadn't thought of how she gets there. Maybe she's been driving without a license ;-)

So she's actually saving the environment.
I like her style. Yes indeed.
