Lack of Resolution

Some people make resolutions. Bee has resolved to post to her blog every day of 2008 (except February 29th, which if you ask me is cheating - I know, you didn't ask me).

I don't do resolutions. I have a whole load of things that I would like to do bettter, but writing them down at New Year isn't going to make any difference. I was going to deliberately not post today, since I would start the year as I mean to go on (i.e. not necessarily posting every day), but that sounds too much like a resolution.

I saw the Greek New Year in watching Cypriot TV. They went live to the Ministry of Finance, where they were saying goodbye to the Cyprus Pound, and hello to the Euro. I missed the best bit, which was President Papadopoulos being the first to draw Euros out of an ATM (perhaps he was planning to hit the clubs afterwards). At least, that must have been better than the rest, which was a series of speeches, oh and an inspirational message from the President of Malta. I expect that there wasn't a dry eye in the house - they were probably all bored to tears. Historic moments are much more interesting when you read about them later, or watch the edited highlights.

I stayed up until the "real" New Year, partly because I still had some Cava left, but mainly so that I could put up my 2008 calendars - Calendars are probably the only thing I'm superstitious about - I never change them, or turn to the next month until the moment actually comes. To do it early would be tempting fate.

Anyway, Happy New Year!

Rules are rules Brian, there's nutin' I can do. You don't want me to get a fine do you?

I'm waiting for my parade to start while Andy shovels the four inches of snow. Poor Andy! :o(

I changed my calendars yesterday before I left work, I guess I made it! ;o)

I think you should do two posts on 28th to make up for it.

If you don't do one on the 29th, then when you get to the end of the year you won't be able to say you didn't miss a single day.

I don't have a new Calendar yet, my old one has a Jan 2008 page for slackers like me. Plus usually we get a free calendar from somewhere or other.

I never make New Year's Resolutions, why set yourself up for failure at the beginning of a brand new, unsoiled, unspoiled New Year?

Oh yes, we got to watch George W. board his plane at our local airport for about 45 minutes--no speech attached at all, just the visual. almost sounds as bad as the Greek thing you watched.

I don't like the Euro thing at all, at all.

I didn't used to need a calendar, but it's useful to write in Helena's arrangements and things. Which means I need it ahead of time.

I got a "Prisoner" one as a Christmas present this year.

They showed highlights on the news - the President getting Euros out of an ATM. They tried the same stunt in Malta, but the ATM was faulty and wouldn't take their President's card.

wow, I never thought about an actual president being over drawn. sad, really

I wasn't on that prisoner one was I?

ATM:

To be fair, it was the ATM that was faulty, so the President went outside and found one on the street somewhere. You can't imagine that sort of thing happening in a big country.

The calendar is about href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner" The Prisoner - I know it was shown in the US in the 60's - I don't know if it's got the same cult status as it has over here.

"I am not a number, I am a free man!"

Try that linky thing again. I do know how to write HTML, honest ;-)

The Prisoner

It sounds very familiar but I don't think I've seen it. We steal a bunch of your television ideas and then put our own special American spin on it...sorry

Brian, sometime will you write a thing about how to link within a comment

and maybe put in the comment section of my blog? people keep asking me and I don't know how and am too lazy to mess around with it and frankly if I ask elastic she will probably have to be hospitalized after yelling at me and blowing a vein in her forehead

if you don't want to, just don't... i won't beg....really

Brian o vretanos said...

Okay, I've done it - no need to beg. Though it took me 3 attempts - it's too easy to make typos, especially when the < sign has to be written <.

This is how I feel as well. The whole new year resolution thing is quite artificial if you ask me. I never kept the resolutions I made, so I stopped making them.
