Wordy Wednesday: Christmas Special

No Escape

The above picture is of a Christmas tree. In my flat. This is a first, but Helena was insistent that I should have one, and decorated and brought this one with her when she visited last weekend. It adds an otherwise absent festive feel to the place, which I must admit is quite nice.

There should be a star on the top, but it keeps falling off, and now I can't find it.

Cooking Book

I had two seperate deliveries of books yesterday. The first was Chris' "Ingredients of a Good Thriller", which Amazon had given an ETA of New Year's Eve, so it was nice to get it before Christmas.

I spent some time reading through it a little quickly. Disappointingly the Greek translation is not yet available, but that aside it's very readable and is the sort of thing that may well inspire you have a go at that writing lark. Though I'm going to wait until his "Ingredients of a Good Blog" comes out...

Good Thrillers

The other parcel contained several months of reading. Four crime novels - two Agatha Christie and two Greek authors. One of them is an Inspector Haritos novel by Petros Markaris. I know I keep raving about him, but his books are available in English, and I'd recommend anyone who likes crime fiction to try them.

And Finally

I hope that all of you and your families have a great Christmas.

Your tree is way cool. I hope you keep to trhis tradition. Andy and I weren't going to get one this year but we changed our minds and I'm glad we did.

Normally I'd be a;; grouchy because I'm working on Christmas Eve but OZ gave us a bonus AND we get to leave at noon. That's great because the weather is still crappy.

Good Morning!

We'll see. It's about a foot and a half tall, so it doesn't take up a great deal of space.

That is good about your bonus and your afternoon off. I was just reading about all the flights cancelled at Chicago. No need to just dream of White Christmas...

Brian Dear,
You have to have a Christmas Tree!
The first year that the hubs and I were dating, he didn't have a tree either so I got him a little fake one that was like a foot tall and I decorated it and even bought him a gift that was like ten times bigger than the tree.
I set the tree up and turned around to get the gift and set it "under" the tree only to find that he had already opened it.
Ahhh, memoried. He was even an ass back then.

I like your tree. It's a shame you didn't buy that rocket. You could have just flown up, grabbed a star and brought it back and stuck it on that tree.
That would have rocked.

Unfortunately they're not selling those shuttles until 2010, so I'll have to come up with another way of getting a star...
